PHRadio Insights – 97.9 Home Radio’s format change similar to WCBS-FM in New York?

This post might offend some of the listeners of these two radio stations. Reader's discretion is encouraged.

Home Radio’s unexpected return to easy listening format this Friday (June 30, 2017) is somewhat similar to that of WCBS-FM 101.1 in New York City in the United States. Though the format changes by these two stations are somewhat similar, the formats are somewhat different. But what are the differences of these two FM radio stations (one from the Philippines and another from the US) that deal with the similar format change?

Home Radio 97.9, one of the radio stations of Aliw Broadcasting Corporation in the Philippines has recently scrapped its CHR playlist in favor of the long-running easy listening music format.

WCBS-FM, one of the flagship stations of the CBS Radio Network in the United States continues to program with its oldies and classic hits format and is the number one FM station in New York City.

Neenjitsu blog enumerates the differences of these two FM stations with their ostentatiously similar format change:

a. HOME RADIO 97.9 (PHILIPPINES)

Easy Listening station from 2000 to 2014 then Hot AC from March to October 2014 then CHR format from October 2014 to June 2017. The format flip from easy listening to masa (mass-based contemporary hit radio) is somewhat disastrous for the station back then in 2014, when the station included the contemporary hits of today. It became as an upscale CHR Local station in 2015 but eventually scrapped due to serious competition from other CHR stations.

b. WCBS-FM 101.1 (NEW YORK CITY, USA)

Oldies format from July 7, 1972 to June 3, 2005 then flipped to Jack FM from June 3, 2005 to July 12, 2007 (the flip to Jack FM format gained significant amount of criticism from NYC listeners and also then NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg). The current WCBS-FM Oldies format returned on July 12, 2007 and continues up to this day (which was well received by NYC listeners and even Mayor Bloomberg welcomed WCBS-FM's oldies music back with open arms, so he proclaimed July 12, 2007 as WCBS-FM returns to New York City Day).

New York City Michael R. Bloomberg criticized WCBS-FM's format change to Jack FM in 2005 but he welcomed oldies music with open arms in 2007 when WCBS-FM reverted to its current oldies format.

There you have it. Let’s see if you have any ideas regarding the comparison between the two FM stations posted here. No negative comments whatsoever. Hope you enjoyed reading this insight. Until the next blog post, cheers!

"Always find new beginnings. Start over every morning with every new sunrise. It's your chance to be different, a chance to become the better version of how you were yesterday. Walk forward with a positive outlook and trust that God has a plan that is far greater than what was left behind. Look out to the sun and be reminded how He loves you and how He wants you to fulfill your dreams by giving you a new day. Celebrate your heaven on earth – live life looking for Him that is all around you and make every moment a prayer."

"Losses be damned – you are here volunteering to grow. You cannot expect to grow if you are too afraid or unwilling to face challenges and take misses and losses. Make sense of them and decide to move ahead. It's not easy but you cannot stay long playing the role of a loser. Convince the universe that you are a winner and the universe will deliver. You are a winner because you have God. You don’t have to see or feel Him to know that He loves you enough to do what is good for you. He has a way of taking you through your losses; He turns things upside down."

Today's Food for Thought (June 28, 2017)

"There will be days when life breaks you down. Days when you feel your heart cleaving in, ripping you open. Nothing and no one can completely protect you from this reality. Hold on and put up – your heart is stronger than you realize. It is ripped open to shake you awake so you can see that you are worth so much more than you are settling for. For it is when everything is painful and your faith uncomfortably strained that God's presence in your life is strongest. Tell Him your pain and feel His purpose for you. The pain that breaks your heart opens a passage for you to grow and contain more love than before, more understanding than before, more peace than before."

Today's Food for Thought (June 27, 2017)

"Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Be willing to confront new and unfamiliar challenges. Be willing to wrestle with your calling blockers like pain and discouragement and childhood wounds. Let not fear hinder you from doing more and being more. For the more you focus on your fears, the less you focus on God. And the less focused you are on Him, the more you get stuck and resist to follow through your own calling. The more you ignore He leads, the farther you pull yourself away from experiencing the life He intends for you."

Today's Food for Thought (June 26, 2017)

There is no pause in living and to wake up each morning is a miracle. Fall in love with the moment – it's a gift. Let go of the past, it happened but you're still here and you made it through. Think not of the future – it's a finished work. God holds the future for you. He wants you to simply live gladly in the here and now and recognize the little moments He has given you. Find Him in the present and He will take you to your next moment, to your next hour, to your tomorrow.

Today's Food for Thought (June 25, 2017)

"God created the shadows to better emphasize the light." - Pope John XXIII

Everyone has a shadow self and carries an invisible shadow bag. Inside are the hidden parts of self – the pain and fear and anger; repressed and denied. As you journey on, it's the weight of the bag that slows you down and prevents you from becoming who you want to be. Open the bag and take the stuff out. Step out from your shadow for you are a child of Light. You are a child of God. Walk into the light with Him and trust that He always has something and everything for you – a light for your shadow, a relief for your sorrow and a plan for your tomorrow.

Today's Food for Thought (June 24, 2017)

Go into the world and spread your light. Go into the world not just for yourself but for others. When you link your journey to helping people, you will learn to value yourself. For every gesture of genuine compassion opens your heart and nourishes your soul – you do well and you do more. When you help another who is struggling and in need, you become the well-wishing instrument of God's love and the living expression of His kindness. He watches over you and notices you, and it is usually through another that He meets your needs. And the more you take the needs of another in your heart, the more you take your own heart to Him.

Today's Food for Thought (June 23, 2017)

Take constant, diligent ownership and stewardship over your soul. Set healthy boundaries that tell those around you what is and is not permissible. It is not a sin to say NO when saying NO is protecting yourself from those who are crossing your personal boundaries in harmful ways. Reflect God in your boundaries. He has given you clear property lines – lines of ownership and responsibility in managing your soul. He uses these lines to teach you to take responsibility for your own life and to accept others as being different yet still valuable. Stepping over the lines brings consequences; living inside them brings you to His blessings.

Today's Food for Thought (June 22, 2017)

Lightning strikes the earth and thunder heralds the doom but the earth bears it all in silence, teaching you that life may be harsh to you but you shouldn't be so to life. Adversities and difficulties are not sufficient reasons for you to suffer defeat. Know that God's will is behind every event. At times, what you consider to be a disaster is simply His hand rearranging your life. Keep the faith and conquer. For to conquer an adversity is to push back a boundary line in order for you to push ahead and overcome.

Today's Food for Thought (June 21, 2017)

"Learn some and think some and play and work every day some. Move and sit; sit and move. Balance to keep yourself from falling. While there is always plenty to be worried and sad about, there is equally plenty to be happy and be at peace with. Look not at the world through your head, but throughyour heart and know God. His creative style ensures that something wonderful will offset something less than wonderful. And He wants you to leave some of the problems of the universe for Him to worry about."

Welcome to my blog!

It has been almost several days since I started my blog but I don't have any idea about how to manage my own blogsite. But my internet connection seemed to erratic these past few days that is why I cannot venture in my blogging engagements. Now that my internet connection became fast and stable (in fact, PLDT fixed the internet antenna yesterday [June 19, 2017], which resulted in a dramatic improvement in speed), I decided to try my luck at blogging again. This is my third time to establish this blog this time on Blogger and it felt easy to create and manage it. I only have difficulty in applying themes, but it ended up with one of my favourite colours that catches my eye - the colour green.

Well, anyway, I would like to welcome all of you to my blog! Why do I choose the name NEENJITSU? I read one of the racing programs on Facebook and the name Neenjitsu really caught my attention. That is why I am having to use this name for this blog site.

What is my blog all about? (for the visitors who are reading my posts here, of course, you are welcome here.)

Actually, I usually post anything and everything under the sun (of course, a wide range of topics are posted here, even the controversial ones, just look at my header). From technology to entertainment, from weather to radio and everything in between. I also post them in Taglish since many of those readers from the Philippines are understanding Tagalog and English at the same time (in case if you are a "foreignoy" or a "foreignay", you might understand what I post here). I also post in straight English for those who did not understand Tagalog as well as the foreign readers here.

Well, anyway, the owner of this blog is Jebi. In case if you don't know me, I am a simple yet outspoken 28-year-old boy from the Philippines who loves music, weather, radio and TV and I also love sports and I am also a news buff. I also listen to the radio just to get the latest news from my native country the Philippines, and also I am the oldest in the brood of 4. Now you know the real owner of this blog is. So you better judge not by looks or so.

Hope you enjoy your stay here in my blog. If you have any questions, feel free to comment here. You can also follow me on Twitter at @JebiTdelaCruz. Let's be friends there also. :)

Till my next blog post, see you!
