Today's Food for Thought (September 22, 2017)

In each of us there is another whom we do not know. - Carl Jung
Everyone has a little bit of the sun and moon in him; a little bit of man, woman, and animal in him. None is just black or white, or never wrong and always right. No one. Compassion is the goal of the game. When the soul reaches true compassion, it feels acceptance for both sides, judging neither as inherently good or bad. The soul then sees the value in both the light and dark, and chooses to have both in balanced portions, as part of itself. For God is in the sadness and the laughter, in the bitter and the sweet. There is a divine purpose behind everything — and therefore a divine presence in everything. Duality and opposite serve you in your learning and growth. As a soul, you are all.

Goodness is about character - integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people. Thank you for the life, and all the little ups and downs that make it worth living. Everyone has his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better place. This is the way of peace: Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love. Appearance is something absolute, but reality is not that way - everything is interdependent, not absolute. So that view is very helpful to maintain a peace of mind because the main destroyer of a peaceful mind is anger. Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.
